Questionnaire Design
Prof. Dr. Edward Groenland
May 25, Tuesday, 10:30-16:30
Room 3, De Rooij Building
The design of an effective and scientifically valid and reliable questionnaire involves both knowledge and craftsmanship. Relevant knowledge relates to rules and heuristics to avoid creating biases when formulating questions, while craftsmanship refers to the process of a continued struggle to write effective and non-biased questions, and trying to improve previous efforts, while receiving feedback in every iteration step. Accordingly, the course will discuss rules and heuristics, and spend much time on exercises in writing appropriate questions, while providing feedback. In addition, strategies to increase the response rate will be discussed. The design of the questionnaire will be based on the research questions, as formulated in the problem analysis. Course materials will be provided, including both rules and heuristics, and exercise materials.
