Half of managers and entrepreneurs surveyed in the Netherlands believe that the credit crisis has been caused by soulless actions on the part of business, while half of companies and managers surveyed believe that bonuses undermine a feeling of community within the organization. These conclusions emerged from the Nyenrode Monitor, a regular study conducted by Nyenrode Business Universiteit. The theme of this edition of the study was business spirituality.

In the middle of 2010, the knowledge economy will once again be high on the agenda of Europe’s heads of government. The most pressing question for the new European president will be whether Europe has indeed become the world’s most competitive knowledge economy — more dynamic than the USA and better than China. Europe’s ambition to achieve this goal was expressed in 2000 during the Lisbon summit, and has remained in force ever since. Prof. Dr. René Tissen, professor of Business Studies, demonstrates that the knowledge economy theme does not always get the attention it deserves.
