Tom Berkhout is Professor of Real Estate at Nyenrode Business Universiteit. His research fields are tax law; financial reporting; valuation; investment analysis; real estate markets; real estate in mergers and acquisitions and forensic accountancy. Apart from his position at Nyenrode he is also Chairman of the Competence Center Real Estate of the Dutch Tax Authorities.
From 1996 until 2003 he was a member of the scientific staff of the Stichting voor Beleggings- en Vastgoedkunde at the investment and real estate school (now Amsterdam School of Real Estate) of the University of Amsterdam. He has written books, articles and research reports on the European and Southeast Asian real estate markets; investment analysis; (national and international) taxation; investment behavior; accountancy; integrity and valuation issues.
Tom obtained his PhD with a thesis on ‘Depreciation and Downward Value Adjustments of Real Estate’ in 2002 at the University of Amsterdam. He received his Master’s degree in Tax Law (1985) and his Master’s degree in Real Estate (1996) from the University of Amsterdam.
