Nyenrode use Facebook to relaunch International MBANyenrode uses Facebook to relaunch International MBA
Nyenrode came up with an innovative way to promote the re-launch of its International MBA program. Using the name of the founder of the mediaeval Nyenrode estate, Gerard Van Ruwiel, a Facebook profile has been created where potential students are invited to befriend Gerard and ‘tag’ themselves in a photo of the 2011 IMBA graduating class.
Désirée Van Gorp, Director of the International MBA program: “The idea is to link the entrepreneurial focus of Nyenrode and the MBA with the founder of the Nyenrode estate, himself a successful entrepreneur in the 1300’s. Those interested in applying for the International MBA should also consider that for the brightest students, we are offering a full tuition waiver. All you have to do is tag yourself to the photo on Gerard’s profile for more information.”
To ‘tag’ yourself as a future Nyenrode iMBA graduate and receive more information visit: www.facebook.com/gvanruwiel

Symposium: The Chairman Makes or Breaks the Board
For years, Prof. Steven Schuit has been fascinated by the question why Boards of Trustees produce little added value, despite the fact that the vast majority of them are made up of highly competent people. He has studied the role of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. By interviewing prominent chairmen, CEOs and other executives, Schuit has attempted to create an inventory of a chairman's tasks. He also makes reference to his own experiences and to previous research on the function of the chairman in other countries. At Nyenrode on 22 and 23 April, Schuits’s study was discussed with prominent chairmen and CEOs at a meeting facilitated by Nyenrode’s recently appointed president, Piero Overmars. YMP27 to start on 18 May
The YMP – Your Leadership Development Program – is a response to the need of organizations to allow their own ‘nursery’ of talented, upcoming leaders to develop. In the present time, when the new generation of leaders is in need of a new ‘model conduct’, this is no easy undertaking. ‘Generation Y’, as these upcoming leaders are known, is not so enamored of the ‘old’ leaders. However, Generation Y also has difficulty with the generation that it has to lead: generation Einstein. The YMP therefore mainly concentrates on influencing ‘upwards’, ‘downwards’ and ‘sideways’. Places are still available on YMP27. You can read about the introductory session on 28 January. For more information, contact Marjan Lubbers MSc, Director Executive Education by email: ymp@nyenrode.nl.

Young Bilderberg Conference 2010
At Nyenrode on 3 June, the Young Bilderberg Conference will be held, titled ‘Leadership of tomorrow: How are WE going to handle it?’ The 2009 conference concluded with the recommendation to develop a ‘code for good leadership’ in order to increase confidence in leadership in the Netherlands. The conference foresaw a role in this for both the SER and Nyenrode. A promise was made to Dr. Alexander Rinnooy Kan, Chairman of the SER, and to the Rector of Nyenrode that a charter containing recommendations would be drawn up in 2010. This charter will be presented to them during the Young Bilderberg Conference. Participation in the conference is by invitation only. For more information, contact Marjan Lubbers MSc, Director Executive Education, by email: m.lubbers@nyenrode.nl

Start of New Board Program Group 8
At the end of March, the eighth group in the New Board Program began with 20 top executives from organizations such as KPMG, Shell, Wessanen, ABN AMRO, PWC, PON, Egon Zehnder, BAM, Robeco, AT Kearney and DLA Piper. The first module covered all the aspects of board room strategy and board room dynamics. In a role-playing game with assistance from actors, a board room meeting between a CEO and the Board of Trustees was simulated. On occasions, this gave rise to heated arguments. The second module will be held in May. The program consists of eight modules in all (one of which will be held in Cambridge) and two special seminars. For more information, contact Marjan Lubbers MSc, Director Executive Education, by email: m.lubbers@nyenrode.nl
